What do you get when you combine baby dolls, rubber ducks, and obstacle courses? Answer: The 2014 Alpha House of Tampa Challenge! On Saturday, October 25th, the Renaissance Tampa Office, as well as friends and significant others, decided to take a break from planning to sponsor and participate in the fundraising event at George F. Steinbrenner field for a day of fun in the Florida sun! Ed Mierzejewski, who works in Renaissance Planning Group's Tampa office and is on Alpha House's Board of Directors, brought the event to the attention of his colleagues. The field day event is in its second year and helps raise money for the maternity-based residential program offered to pregnant and homeless women and teens and their children at Alpha House, located in Hillsborough County. The residential program provides safe housing for 39 women and their children.
The Alpha House of Tampa Challenge consisted of a wide variety of sporting events ranging from a baby-biathalon (to go along with the theme of the organization's mission) to dizzy bat spin races and giant croquet. There were three team categories: Open, Family, and Corporate with participants ranging in all ages. With no practice or prior participation in last year's event, Renaissance Tampa managed to place 6th out of the 30 corporate teams (not to mention, the third fastest giant croquet time). Hopefully next year Renaissance Tampa will be able to take home the gold!
A big thank you to Ed for getting the company involved in the event! If you would like to learn more about Alpha House of Tampa, or how you can donate, be sure to visit their website or ask Ed for more information.
