Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Four

Renaissance brings a holistic, integrated approach to freight and goods movement planning that recognizes the interactions among land use, transportation system design, operations, and economic productivity. Our qualifications are deep and varied, addressing a wide range of modes, contexts, agencies, planning horizons, and investment categories.  

Since 2018, Renaissance has been leading this on-call Districtwide Freight Studies Contract providing comprehensive freight planning services in FDOT District Four with impacts beyond Southeast Florida. Working with the Office of Modal Development along with staff from across the District, Renaissance has been leading a range of on-call freight projects and initiatives that include:  

• Seaport Compliance Annual Reviews: Renaissance supported District Four and the District’s respective seaports (Port Everglades, Port of Palm Beach, and Port of Fort Pierce) with documenting project compliance, progression, finances, and other project details.  

• Freight Story Videos: Renaissance developed multiple Freight Story Videos that convey the value and purpose of the District’s freight transport systems and roadway networks. These videos feature in-person interviews with many users and partners across the freight and shipping industry including truck drivers, port staff, airport staff, and shipping companies as well as District Four team members. The videos include drone/aerial footage of freight networks, vital shipping locations, freight activity, timelapse videos, maps, various infographics, motion graphics, and animations to create an informative and compelling story about freight. Multiple videos of various lengths were produced for a range of purposes that include internal workshops and training, to public communications and social media.  The full length “District Four Freight Story” video is available here.  

• Freight Improvement Database: Renaissance lead a project to inventory, organize, and prioritize “freight hot spot” locations within a searchable database that is accessible internally by departments within FDOT and certain partner agencies.  

• In-House Support:  Renaissance provided in-house support to assist FDOT District Four’s Freight and Logistic Operation divisions (aviation, freight and multimodal operations, and seaports) in carrying out its freight initiatives and programs. Through this in-house support, Renaissance staff member Amanda Chornoby served as interim FDOT District Four Freight Coordinator.  

• Truck Parking Assessment Update: Renaissance is leading an assessment of 40 sites including five rest areas, one weigh-in-motion station, two tandem lots, and 32 Park-and-Ride lots within District Four. The locations which meet criteria in the initial feasibility stage will have conceptual plans and long-range estimates (LRE) developed to retrofit them to incorporate additional truck parking spots.
